CELESTE LOIS

My name is Maria Celeste, named after a ghost ship that my dad saw in a movie when he was young. It turns out that the ship actually existed, and was found floating at sea with no crew aboard. When I investigated a little, the last log was dated November 24, my birthday. How could I not dedicate myself to film after that?

For 20 years I’ve been telling stories, whether short or long. I started my advertising career as an executive producer at LND, and then worked as an assistant director in advertising, film and television. I trained with directors such as Andy Fogwill, Agustín Alberdi, Juan Campanella, Pablo Agüero, Edi Flehner and Wino, among others.

I have also developed projects creatively for many years, for clients all over the world, working mainly with Tronco, ladoble, Rebolución, LND, Primo Chile, Cueca Chile, Landia LA, Whiskey Mexico, among others.

As a director I love constant experimentation, leaving me with a varied body of work that includes commercials, short documentaries, short films and music videos. Among my advertising clients are Ford, Johnnie Walker, Unilever, Danone, Bonafide, Paceña, Pedidos Ya, Claro, Colgate, Cabify, Fernet, and KTM, among many others. The video I shot for Lali Espósito “Tu Novia”, as well as “Flaca Huella” by Los Cafres, stand out in my work.

As I am restless, I have never stopped filming fiction as well. My latest achievement was being awarded an INCAU grant to shoot a short film that I co-directed with Marina Artigas, called Nélida. The film debuted at the 2023 José Ignacio Film Festival, where it was prized with the people’s choice award; and will now begin its journey through the festival circuit. I previously filmed Nena, co-produced between Argentina and Uruguay, which was selected in the 2019 La Mujer y el Cine Festival, opened the DETOUR Film Festival in Montevideo in October 2019, was screened at the Filmets-Badalona Film Festival in 2020 and was selected for the Patagonia Media Festival 2020. Currently, I have two short films in pre-production – one dives into the horror genre, with the script based on a story by Mariana Enriquez; while the other will be more experimental, shot on 16mm.

As a photographer I will always be at the service of any just cause. I was awarded by the Itaú Foundation for a portrait I took while traveling in India.

I declare myself a free spirit and a restless artist who loves good challenges.
